What are LULUCF projects?

LULUCF projects are those in the land-use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector.  A list of LULUCF-sector activities is set out in Article 3(3) and (4) of the Kyoto Protocol and include:

• Afforestation, reforestation and avoided deforestation (Article 3(3)); and
• Revegetation, forest management, cropland management and grazing land management (Article 3(4)).

There is currently no restriction on the eligibility of these LULUCF-sector activities to be carried out as Joint Implementation (JI) activities.
